Some pitman arms are not keyed and can be put back on out of whack. I lived this nightmare with P*P B*YS. When its all done, do yourself a favor and check it. Put your wheels straight, turn your steering wheel counting the turns left, center it again, and count the turns right going lock to lock.

This done by adjusting the tie rods as part of the alignment. The tie rods have no effect on a F53 solid axle steering wheel position. You need to adjust the drag link lenght. The drag link runs from the pitnum arm ( on the steering box ) to the left front spindle. Unfortunately the drag link is not adjustable. .

Well alot of old-timer mechanics swear up and down they've never needed an alignment after installing a new pitman arm, but who knows. I'm NOT letting Firestone/Meineke/etc fuck with my overall alignment just to set the wheels straight with the steering wheel. My factory knockouts are still in and the tires wear perfectly.
